Shem Von Schröck was replaced by David Hungate, the bassist who left the band following the release of Toto IV to spend more time with his family. The band released a live album called Isolation in 1985, which included an orchestra and sounded much like their studio albums. Following the Isolation Tour, guitarist Steve Lukather decided to bring in a second vocalist and keyboardist. They auditioned a number of musicians, including Fergie Frederiksen, but ultimately settled on Joseph Williams.

In 2018, Toto released a new album titled Old Is New and embarked on a world tour to promote the album. Lenny Castro and Shannon Forrest joined them on the tour, as well as Warren Ham and Shem Von Schroeck. Toto is among the most well-known bands in the world. Toto is synonymous with musical credibility.
